We didn't get to read Sauvez ma Babouche last week, so we will read chapters 5 and 6 this week. The focus will be on making connections as well. We will go over some faire expressions. The verbs aller and faire will be focuses for a science paragraph they will write later. We will also practice some transition word usage. English/Social Studies We will go over how to write the social studies paragraph again, and they will be given time to write it. The due date is set for this Thursday, but it will most likely be pushed to the end of next week. Math We will be focusing on fractions next. There will be a math/art mini project that they will start this week. The due date will be next Friday. Science We will be studying the muscular system next.

This week is shortened by a holiday and Science World, so we won't be covering as much.
French We will continue with Sauvez ma Babouche. We are on the 5th chapter out of 8. We will be starting to study the verb faire. We will do a bit of comma work with transition words. We will be looking at how to make connections when reading. English/Social Studies We will look at some transition words in English and start planning our social studies paragraph. The question for the paragraph is "Is there enough convincing evidence to change the voting system?" The due date is tentatively set for next Thursday. Science We will be studying the skeletal system. Math There is a quiz on Friday on number concepts. It is similar to the first quiz, but with a greater focus on representing decimal numbers and fractions. Other Science World is on Wednesday. French
French paragraphs will be handed back on Monday, and students will have until Friday to hand it in again for corrections. The marks will be on ThinkWave, but they can be changed after corrections are made. We will be studying the verb aller this week. We will be reading chapter 4 of Sauvez ma Babouche. English We will be covering how to incorporate evidence into paragraphs. If we have time, we will cover transition words this week as well. Math Quizzes will be handed back on Monday, and students will be doing corrections to improve their learning. The marks are already on ThinkWave, but they can be changed after corrections are done. We will be learning more about decimal numbers this week. Social Studies We will be learning more about the government, and students will be writing a paragraph using the writing skills we have covered about it soon (probably next week). Science We will be learning about the digestive system this week. Other Please hand in the Science World forms as soon as possible. We will be continuing to read Sauvez Ma Babouche. The reading strategy we will go over next is questioning. We will be learning more about the verb avoir. There is a paragraph quiz the students will be doing on Thursday. However, they've already started on the draft copy of the paragraph, so on Thursday, they'll have an hour to write their good copy and self-evaluating. The topic of the paragraph is "Who are you?" and they will be assessed on capitals, periods, paragraph structure (topic sentence is the focus), être (3 different conjugaisons) and avoir (3 different conjugaisons). I will be marking this over the weekend, and I will return it with written feedback only. However, the mark will still be on ThinkWave. They will then make corrections and hand it in again, and I may adjust their mark accordingly. When I hand it back the second time, they will see their mark. Math The quiz will be on Friday, and it will cover place value, rounding, number lines, and writing numbers with words. Just like the aforementioned paragraph, I will mark it over the weekend and return it with written feedback only, but there will be still be a preliminary mark on ThinkWave. I will return the quiz on Monday and they will have a week to make corrections and hand it in again a second time. They will see the mark once I hand it back the second time. English/Social Studies We will be learning more about the Canadian government. In writing, we will be learning about evidence and supporting details in a paragraph. This won't be a big focus on the current paragraph they are writing, but it will be for the paragraphs after. Science We will continue our human body unit with the circulatory system. French
We will continuing with chapter 2 of Sauvez ma Babouche! Making predictions will be a reading strategy that we will focus on this week. There will be more practice with être and we will start looking at avoir as well. There will be a quiz next Thursday on these 2 verbs. I will give more details on it in class and in a blog post next week, but the quiz will focus on conjugating and using these 2 verbs correctly. We are also practicing writing with capitals and periods. The aforementioned quiz will also involve periods and capitals as a focus. English We will be looking at internet privacy and passwords more deeply this week. Math We are going over decimals and place value. I normally do math quizzes every 2 weeks on a Friday, but I will be playing it by ear with this unit since it's one of the more challenging ones. There won't be a quiz this Friday, but there will be one next Friday. Science We are continuing with our body systems unit. Social Studies We are continuing with our government unit. Genius Hour If all goes to plan, students will have 8 in-class days to work on the project. We will be picking presentation dates on November 22, and the presentation dates are set for the week of December 2-6. French
We will be starting Sauvez ma Babouche this week. We will read up to chapter 1. We will do some review of être in writing. English We will be starting to learn about digital citizenship this week. For writing, we will be learning proper use of periods. Students will be practicing writing conventions in both languages. Math We will be starting our math unit on number concepts (fractions/decimals) this week. Students will be practicing math facts every week with a program called XtraMath, so they will be given logins to that. Social Studies We will be starting our government unit this week. Science We will be starting our body systems unit this week. Here is a brief overview of what we are doing in the first term. Everything is subject to change.
French As a class, we will be reading the novel Sauvez ma Babouche. The students will have a packet of questions they have to fill out for every chapter. The final project will be described in the art section below. For writing, we will be working on the core verbs (être, aller, avoir), paragraphing, punctuation and capitals. Digital citizenship and responsible use of technology will be common topics of discussion (in both languages), and students will be using these topics in an assessment of the aforementioned writing conventions. English/Social Studies Social Studies will be done in English, and assignments will be assessed for both English and Social Studies marks. We will be studying the government of Canada, and the students will be creating an election platform as their final project. Math We will be studying number concepts (fractions/decimals/place value). There is no major project planned, but there will be quizzes and assignments. Students will be using an online program specifically to practice math facts and another separate program to help them work on math content that is being studied. More information on these will be given at a later date. Science We will be learning about body systems. The final project will be a poster (or some sort of visual) that explains how a certain body systems interact with each other. Art We will be studying drama, and students will be creating a play about what they predict will happen after the end of Sauvez ma Babouche. ADST Every Friday afternoon, we will have an enrichment block where students will be working on a long term project. This term, we will be doing Genius Hour, where students will do research about a topic of their choice and present their findings to the class. The presentations will be in the middle of December, and students will be introduced to it next week. Other There is no homework for the sake of homework. However, students may choose to bring assignments home to work on if they feel they are not making enough progress in class. There are still 2 things I'd like them to do regularly: 1. Students are expected to read for at least 15 minutes a day, 5 times a week.. Students are highly encouraged to read a French book at least 3 times a week at home. 2. They should practice typing at least 3 times a week for 5-10 minutes per session. |
