We will be going over commas, spring vocabulary and passé composé this week. There will be a quiz combining passé composé and commas either next week or the week after, depending on how this week goes. Social studies We will be continuing our unit on land and natural resources. Math There will be a quiz on adding/subtracting decimals on Friday. There is a practice quiz available. Multiplication will be next. English Students will be doing their week 1 assignments of their literature circles and starting week 2's. Science We will be doing a unit on the rock cycle, but it will be closer to the end of this month.

Here is what we will be doing in the second term. Everything is subject to change, but it should still provide a general guideline.
French Spring poem. We will be covering punctuation, passé composé, spring vocabulary, poem structure, and art for the poem. English Song analysis. We will be going over metaphor and simile analysis again. Literature circles. Students will be reading a book for 6 weeks, and they will be completing a page in a novel study package (basically like an English version of the Babouche package) each week. They will also meet with their groups to discuss the book each week. Most students are expected to make progress on this at home. Math 3 quizzes. 1 will be on addition/subtraction of decimal numbers. The second one will be on multiplication. The third one will be on division. Social Studies They will be doing a research project and creating an action plan on an environmental issue. Science To be announced. I will be posting an update near the end of the break on what to expect for the second term.

We will be analyzing and writing similes and metaphors in English/French. An assignment for next term will be analyzing those in an English song of their choice and writing a French poem with those. Math We will be doing some mental math exercises. ADST After Genius Hour, we will be coding. The second term will consist mostly of learning how to code, and in the third term, students will be making their own program. The students will have an account made for them at www.code.org, which is where they will be learning to begin with. French/English
In preparation of a project that we will start in the new year, we will be studying figures of speech in song lyrics and poems for the rest of the year. Students will also learn how to write a poem using these figures of speech. Science Infographic will be due on the 3rd. Math We have wrapped up our unit on number concepts. We will be doing mental math strategies for the month of December. Genius Hour Presentations will be going on for the whole week. Math
There will be a quiz on comparing and arranging fractions on Friday (29th). Science The planning portion of the infographic should be done by Wednesday (27th). The whole project will be due on Dec 3rd. French/Science I will hand back the paragraphs on Tuesday, and they will make improvements on them. This will be due on the 29th. Genius Hour Presentation dates have been chosen. They will be between Dec 2-6th. Students will get a lot of next week to work on them. Other Field trip forms for the LEFT field trip on Dec 6th will go home on Tuesday. Please hand back in ASAP. I also need parent drivers, so please let me know if you are able to accompany us. We are leaving at 12 and coming back at 2; there is no requirement to stay with the students. French/Art
The Babouche presentation will be on the 20th (Wednesday). They will be practicing them on the 19th. French/Science Students will be wrapping up the prewrite of their science paragraph and writing their rough copy this week. We will be writing the "good" copy on the 21st (Thursday). Science Research should already be done, so we will start the infographic this week. The infographic has 2 parts to it: 1. The plan and 2. The infographic. Students will be given a template to plan their infographic by simplifying their research and stating what image they will use to represent each piece of information. The planning should be done by the 20th (Wednesday), and the infographic will be due on the 26th. Other We will have an aboriginal presenter come in on Wednesday to do button blankets with us in the afternoon. French
The class had 1 day less to work on their Babouche project, so I will extend the due date of the script to Thursday, the 14th. Also, the presentations will start on the 19th. The students will spend time rehearsing their play in class. I will also push the packet of questions to be due on the 15th. Math There will be a quiz on fractions on Friday. Practice quizzes have already been made available last week. Science Students will start planning their paragraph this week. They will be writing their good copy on the 21st. They will be continuing their project research this week. I will show them how to create their project on Thursday, and hopefully most students will be able to start by then. French
We will be wrapping up Sauvez ma Babouche this week. The packet will be due on the 14th. The students will be put into groups of 3 as well for their project, which is a play on what they think will happen in the next chapter. The plays will be on the week of the 18th. Math There will be a quiz on representing fractions on the 15th. Science They will be doing a research paragraph that's due on the 21st. The criteria is really similar to the social studies paragraph, except it's in French, they need to use aller and faire, and they will need to do research. The research is to be done by this Thursday, and they should finish the rough copy by the 13th. They will also be creating an infographic about their body system as their project. The research for that is due on the 14th, and the infographic is due on the 26th. An email will go out to parents when the students are about to create the infographic because the students will require help creating an account on www.canva.com. Genius Hour They have been given logins to Office for their project. They are to create their presentation after their research is done. French
We will be reading 2 chapters of Sauvez ma Babouche. There should be 1 chapter left after this week, and then we will start our novel project. We will be reviewing the 4 core French verbs (aller, avoir, faire, être). There will be a quiz on this next week where students will have to know how to use and conjugate them correctly. They will also be eventually writing a science paragraph with a focus on the verbs aller and faire. English/Social Studies Students will be writing the good copy of their social studies paragraph on Thursday. Math We will be learning about fractions (equivalence, comparing). Tentatively, there is no quiz on this next week; it should be the week after, though. The grid project is due on Wednesday. Science We will be learning about the nervous system next. |
